Sleepless nights. Restless baby. Grumpy days for everyone. Teething is a beast, and one of the many reasons my husband swears there’s a reason most people don’t remember much before the age of three-it’s too traumatic! This week I’m really feeling it while my 11 month old is getting teeth 2-4 at the same time. I can tell you, I have a new found love for Lavender, Roman Chamomile, and Sweet Almond oils. The best part (aside from my sanity) is the price point. The baby items market is so expensive and thankfully these oils are versatile and used for many more things than soothing raw gums. They are probably my most used oils, especially as a parent. Definitely must-haves in your natural medicine cabinet.

Supplies

3-6 Drops Lavender

3-6 Drops Roman Chamomile

25 mL (5 tsp) Carrier Oil (Sweet Almond or Fractionated Coconut)

~30 mL (1 oz) Ice-cold water or aloe gel

Cotton Balls or Q-tips

2- 1oz glass jars

Directions

Part 1-Mixture 1: Pour 25 mL (5 tsp) carrier oil into the first glass jar. Drop 6 drops essential oil into the carrier (3 drops each Lavender and Roman Chamomile, or 6 drops of your favorite). Mix well and set aside for 24 hours.

Part 2-Mixture 2: In the second glass jar, pour 5 mL (1 tsp) of Mixture 2 from the first glass jar. Fill with ice-cold water or cold aloe gel to the threads of the jar (leaving a little air between the mixture and the lid) and blend very well.

Part 3-Application: Using a Q-tip or cotton ball, lightly dip into mixture 2 and softly wipe along the outside of baby’s jaw (NOT inside baby’s mouth). This helps cool inflammation. Next, rub only one drop from mixture 1 between your fingers then apply gently along baby’s jaw line. Apply as needed.

*Safety: Do not apply oils inside baby’s mouth, use topically only.
