My kids are on spring break this week. This usually means that my house will be a disaster and I will get nothing done. However, I changed my mindset and decided that I would take advantage of my kids being home and put them to work!
I really don’t like cleaning with my kids even in the house because of the harsh chemicals that are in all the cleaning products. I have to open windows, turn fans on, and wear a mask. I hate breathing in those chemicals and I don’t want to take any chances with my kids inhaling them.
I started cleaning with essential oils about a year ago. It was one of the last things in my life to be transformed with essential oils. I’m not sure why it took me so long, maybe because I thought that it would be too hard or too much work. It is completely the opposite. I don’t have to go to the store when I run out, I don’t have to wear masks, I don’t have to open windows in the winter time, and the best part is that my kids can help now!!!
Here are a couple of my favorite recipes.
Disinfecting Toilet Bowl Cleaner
1/2 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup vinegar
10 drops of Melaleuca Essential Oil
You can combine the ingredients directly in the toilet. It will fizz. Let it sit in there for 5-10 minutes (or longer if you forget about it like me), then scrub with a toilet brush and flush.
Soap Scum Remover
1/2 cup Borax
2 cups of hot water
10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil
Mix all the ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake and spray thoroughly. Let sit for a few minutes. Use a sponge to scrub and then rinse and wipe dry.
1 cup of white distilled vinegar
1 cup boiling water
10 drops of Melaleuca essential oil
10 drops of Lavender essential oil
I take a roll of Costco paper towels and cut it in half. I put all of the ingredients in a container that will fit the paper towels. This is the one I use. I combine all of the ingredients in the container, gently push the paper towel roll (cardboard and all) into the container, let it sit for 20 minutes, then flip it over and set for another 15 minutes. The cardboard will pull out and you can use your wipes. You can adjust the water and vinegar amounts as needed depending on the brand of paper towels you use or if you like them more wet/not.
1 Mason Jar with large holes in the lid
1 cup of Baking Soda
10 drops of Refresh Essential Oil
Put the baking soda in the mason jar and add essential oils. Shake well and sprinkle on carpet. Allow to sit for 20 minutes or so and then vacuum up. Super easy, simple recipe that makes your carpet smell amazing!!!!
