Frankincense comes from trees in the boswellia genus. Native to the areas around the Red Sea, these small trees grow throughout north-eastern Africa and surrounding areas. These unique trees produce a gum resin which is gathered by making an incision, or “wound” in the bark of the tree. The resin then “bleeds” out, and dries over the “wound” and is then scraped from the tree. This is raw Frankincense.
