Holiday Season DIYs

This time of year can be stressful. As adults, we are able to realize and figure out ways to deal with it. This can be by eliminating things on our to do list, talking to loved ones, or other various ways to release that stress. But, this time of year is also stressful on kids. There is the pressure to “be good”, the busyness of going places or family coming into town, and they also pick up on our stress.

Take some time and try making these fun, colorful, and therapeutic play dough balls.

Holiday Playdough

2 cups flour

½ cup salt

2 tbs cream of tartar

2 tbs oil (vegetable or canola, whatever you have handy)

1 ½ cups of boiling water (add in increments)

Mix all of the ingredients together. It will look lumpy and messy at first, but knead it together and it will begin to take shape, looking more like play dough. If it is too sticky add a little more flour or if it is too clumpy add a little more boiling water.

Divide it into smaller balls (as many or as a few scents and colors as you would like to make).

Push your thumb down in the center of the ball. Add one drop of food coloring and one drop of essential oil. Knead together and add more if desired.

Essential oil options:

Lavender– calming and soothing

Wild Orange– uplifting, antidepressant

Shield Protective Blend– to keep away germs or fight an existing cold

Bliss Calming Blend– speaks for itself

Focus Blend– to help redirect

Try this super easy way to make your home smell amazing and decorate the tree at the same time this Holiday season.

Sliced Wood Diffuser Ornament

Buy or cut thin wood slices (these can be found at any craft store).

Drill a small hole about ½ inch down from one side.

Take a piece of twine (the length will depend on what you will be doing with your wood slice) fold it in half and slide it through the hole, don’t pull it all the way through, leave a small loop.

Take the two ends and push them over the top and back through the loop.

Add your desired Holiday scent or combine a few and enjoy!!

Here are a couple ideas:

Christmas Candy

2 drops Wintergreen

1 drop Cinnamon

Oh Christmas Tree

1 drop Cinnamon

1 drop Wild Orange

2 drops White Fir

Peppermint Surprise

2 drops Peppermint

1 drop Ylang Ylang

{The amount of oil you use will depend on how strong you want the scent to be. The above recipes are a ratio; double, triple, quadruple as desired.}
